East Sussex Prayer – Week of Waiting

HOPES Week of Waiting

Please join us as we start this advent season by pausing and listening to the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Heb 12:2a). We have felt led to set aside time to come before God to listen and would love to invite churches to join us in this season of watching and waiting.

The Week will include different interactive prayer stations as well as other times of prayer/reflection during the opening times (please see attached flyer).

We would welcome church groups/Home groups to use the space at other times (upon request), but please contact on info@hopeastsussex.org for further details.

The Week will end with 24hrs of continous prayer as the festival of Hannukah begins From Friday 8th December through to Saturday 9th from 7pm to 7pm. We would love as many Churches/Home groups/individuals to sign up using this link:

Family accommodation needed for three months

Dan and Suzy Dugmore, with their children Ben and Beth, are Eastbourne based missionaries serving the Lord in Southern Africa with Youth with a Mission (YWAM).  Here is a copy of their latest newsletter which gives a flavour of their amazing work.

They are planning to spend three months from January to March in the UK catching up with family, friends and supporters and renewing visas etc.

They are in need of accommodation while they are here!  If you know of anyone who has something suitable for this family of four for this period, preferably at low cost, please contact Martyn Relf:  martyn@livingstoneschurch.co.uk.

Advent Quiet Day at Crowhurst – December 5th

Crowhurst Christian Healing Centre invite you to an Advent Quiet Day “Treasures in the Darkness – Holding the light for those we support” le by Revd Steve Gurr on Tuesday 5th December.  Being in a place of darkness or despair is often an overwhelming, frightening, and disorientating experience for people. It can feel never-ending and hopeless – like there is no way out.  For Christians who come alongside those who find themselves in darkness, we can be overcome by our concern for the spiritual wellbeing of others or feel concerned that we are unable to help. The backdrop of the Advent season will provide the context for our reflections together.  Steve is an Anglican priest and spiritual director who has worked in parishes, hospice chaplaincy and is currently Chaplain at HMP Ford in West Sussex.  The day will run from 10am – 4pm and costs £30 per person to include a 2 course lunch, refreshments and cake.

Succesful Asylum Seekers Need Homes. Can you help?

Do you know of a property which could be rented out (managed at no extra charge by an experienced property manager) and could also benefit local refugees?

Sanctuary is looking to connect a property owner who wishes to receive rental income and at the same time support people who have just been given their refugee status with a very experienced property owner and manager who is already successfully managing other properties with refugee tenants and other vulnerable adults.  If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please contact us on info@sanctuaryeastbourne.org

Many of you will know that the Home Office is granting asylum to individuals from countries where there is a proven track record of civil war, persecution and torture.  The difficulty is that these individuals, when they receive their refugee status, only have between 7-28 days to find somewhere to live and a means of financially supporting themselves.   Sanctuary is working with these individuals in partnership with other agencies and organisations to help them to find work, financially support themselves and find somewhere to live.  Despite some successes, it is very difficult to achieve this in such a short time and, as a result, some are sadly forced to sleep rough.  Where we have supported the individuals to find housing and employment, they have been able to contribute positively to the local community and to support themselves effectively so we know that housing is a key contributor to success.  The property manager who is willing to take on an additional property in Eastbourne already manages several properties with refugee tenants and other vulnerable adults and has a transparent, effective and supportive system in place which is working well.  Your support in helping us to find housing for refugees could literally change someone’s life for good so please have a think about your network in case there is anyone you know who might like to get involved.  Thank you.
