Jesus Revolution Film Comes to Eastbourne

The growth of Calvary Chapel and the subsequent impact of it’s music via Maranatha Music will be a familiar story to many Eastbourne people whose family members may well have worked with Kingsway Music or similar companies. The impact of their pastor Chuck Smith on the wider Jesus revolution of the late sixties and early seventies is also an important part of the spiritual journey of many in the town.

The Jesus Revolution film tells the story of some of that time and is receiving warm reviews from many who were ‘there at the time’.

It is scheduled for one showing in Eastbourne at 6pm on Thursday July 6 at the Cineworld complex within The Beacon. You can book via their site.

Make Lunch Seeking Volunteers to Help Children Avoid Food Poverty

MakeLunch is a project that feeds hungry families in the school holidays.

We have a team of volunteers from different churches in the town and we need more people to help.

The project started in 2018 and is overseen by River of Life Community Church and hosted at St Barnabas Church in Langney.

We need people who can: Put up tables and chairs to set the dining room, help in the kitchen with food preparation and serving, talk with and engage the parents and children, help with clearing away and cleaning up.

The kitchen team are needed from about 10am, others are needed from 11. Those coming to help clear away are required from 1pm and everything is finished by 2.30pm. We are running 4 Thursdays in August.
If you could spare some time to help with any of these things, please contact Julie Smith on 07882 497078 or Julie.s@rolcc.uk

Cross at Crematorium Response

Further to concern about the absence of a cross at the Lagney Crematorium the local authority has responded to correspondance from the public with the following comment:

‘In the main chapel at the Crematorium, we have a cross, which has to be removable for us to deliver multi faith funerals, but is always in position unless asked to be removed.

In the recently refurbished Family chapel, given the number of different funerals that we conduct including a significant number of non-religious, those arranging are asked if they want a cross, which will then put up at their request.

No Cross at Crematorium?

A message from Fr Neil Chatfield

Having done a service in the family chapel at the crematorium this week I noticed two things. First that a long overdue refurbishment has taken place. However the second thing I noticed was the absence of a cross anywhere in the chapel. While I am aware they need to cater for many different tastes there should be a cross present for Christian funerals. The cross can be removed for non Christian funerals.

I politely made my opinions about this and wonder if others might also let their feeling now to the authorities.

Fr Neil Chatfield.
