Crowhurst Christian Healing Centre are now taking bookings for their Men’s weekend 24^th – 26^th November.  Here is what to expect:  The great Roman general Maximus, played by Russel Crowe in the film ‘Gladiator’  urged his men as they lined up for battle ‘Brothers, what we do in life… echoes in eternity.’  This is not an easy time to be alive in our present world, but deep within each of us is still the desire to make our lives count for eternity. Whether we have many years to live, or just a few, we long to make a difference.

This weekend you are warmly invited to join us as a group of men, not only for good food, good fellowship and fun, but also to explore what God might be saying to us in these times. We shall be looking at the life of Abraham, a man of faith, generosity, courage as well as failings. In different ways he was a warrior, a priest, a prophet and a king. Just as he made an impact for eternity, we shall be learning from him how we can in our own lives make an impact that echo in eternity.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to our inaugural Sanctuary vs Eastbourne Hospital charity football match taking place this Sunday 10th September from 5.30pm at Eastbourne United Football Club.

Live music will be playing from 5.30pm, kick off is at 6pm and every penny of the suggested £5 entry fee on the gate will go towards the work of Sanctuary which supports people seeking asylum and refuge in Eastbourne.  You can find out more about our work here.

This is Sanctuary’s first charity sporting event (and the first time that the team has played together) and we would love a great turnout so please pass on the invite to friends, co-workers, family members and congregations!  A big thank you to Zack from Dem Shish for taking a lead on this, organising the training sessions, the team formation, liaising with Eastbourne District Hospital Team and providing the kit.

8 million children disappear from all over the world every year. At least 6 million are in slavery; 2 million in the sex trade. ‘The Sound of Freedom’ is based on the true story of a US government special agent working in an underground task force against child trafficking. Blocked by the limitations of bureaucracy, he launched out to rescue children on his own, forming ‘Operation Underground Railroad.

In a world where there are now more people in slavery than even when slavery was legal, this film, featuring and depicted by courageous people of faith dedicated to the eradication of this evil, (including Tim Ballard, the subject, played by Jim Caviezel (‘Passion of the Christ’), and put out by Angel Studios, (who launched ‘The Chosen’), is a ‘wake-up call’ to awareness and action for society, but in particular for the Christian Church.

As Edouardo Verastegui, the film’s producer, says, ‘ We have a weapon of mass instruction and inspiration: movies. Movies move people, how they think.’ Tim Ballard, who has put his life on the line countless times, downplays his own role and points instead to ‘the real heroes’ as the story-tellers, recounting Abraham Lincoln’s words to Harriet Beecher Stowe, who in her time confronted the issue in ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’: ‘So you’re the little lady who wrote the book who started this war!’ Their hope is that this film will become a spring-board for a movement of ordinary people who will stand up and say, ‘Enough’!

The film is being shown at Cineworld in Eastbourne on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7th of September.

We need to know how we can gain freedom and victory from the enemy, something which is only possible because of Jesus’ death on the cross.

This course exposes the enemy’s tactics to undermine the work and will of God. It brings a biblical understanding of the deliverance ministry, the lessons that can be learned from the way Jesus ministered to people in the gospels, who deliverance is for, how the enemy can gain a foothold, and how Jesus has given us His power and authority to bring freedom to others.

But the emphasis will be on the good news of the Gospel; Jesus came to set the captives free and His victory on the Cross has defeated all the powers of Satan. Focussing on how to apply this victory to our personal lives, it aims to bring deep spiritual freedom to the strongholds of the enemy.

We talk more nowadays about connection than ever before, often in terms of connecting to the internet or mobile signal. Connecting to the heart of God can have similar frustrations: lack of clarity, inability to make things work, lack of understanding and knowledge … it can all contribute to a frustrated Christian life.

Since we are made as creative beings, in the image of Creator God, creativity often allows us to connect to God in a fresh and deeper way. It isn’t about being artistic or gifted at crafts, rather it is allowing an expression of the human spirit that goes beyond the constraints of words or through life’s filters and perceptions.

Throughout this day there will be plenty of opportunity for guided and creative projects aimed at facilitating a deeper connection with God and allow Him to speak directly into your heart. Glyndley Manor runs a number of Connect courses throughout the year, each with a slightly different theme highlighted in the title.

RESTORATION WEEK 3: REDEEMING WOMANHOOD

Discover what it means to be a woman in God’s eyes.

As a woman, defining your personhood can be a challenge that begins from a young age, through your teenage years and continues through adulthood. God created men and women with distinct differences and godly womanhood has not always been well represented in the world’s view, creating a confusion about what it really means to be a woman. Navigating personal, cultural and media expectations can lead you to experiencing a sense of losing who you truly are and what it really is to be a woman of God.

If life has caused you to lose something of your womanhood or to challenge acceptance of yourself as a woman, a wife, a daughter or a sister, then maybe you could consider taking some time out to explore God’s purpose and heart for women. Through looking at women in the Bible and the integral roles they played in God’s divine plan, this course aims to break down wrong beliefs developed through cultural expectation, media pressure and past experiences.

There will be time for creative expression and personal prayer ministry to help you untangle any inner confusion or lies as well as time to listen to hear God speak to you, His daughter, personally.

Maybe it is time for you to break free from the shackles of the past and find personal release to be the woman God created you to be, a delight to Him with a strong purpose in His divine plans.

Many people live with the pressure of working at an outer persona that is seemingly acceptable whilst experiencing a very real sense of emptiness on the inside. Lost in negative patterns of behaviour, just going through the motions of being a Christian, there can be a deep sense of isolation and wondering if there is more.

This creativity course is not simply an opportunity to do crafts and creative activities, instead, God uses the creativity to reach us deep on the inside. It provides an opportunity for connection – real connection with God and others. A kind of connection that happens when God’s Spirit touches our heart and where our mind is not dictating the process.

If you feel an ache in your heart for a deeper connection with God, then this course may be the key to experiencing God’s healing heart in way you never have before.

Youth Leader, St John’s Meads

12 hours per week, initial 12-month contract

£27,040 pa pro-rata plus pension contribution

St John’s is seeking to appoint a part-time Youth Leader to guide and develop our small but growing youth ministry.

You will be responsible for overseeing and developing the programme for 11-18 year olds, with a view to growing the number of young people coming to St John’s and nurturing their love of Jesus. You will manage, augment and encourage a team of volunteers working with youth, identifying and releasing gifting among them. You will be helping to shape the pattern of worship to increase the visibility of young people across different aspects of St John’s ministry, enabling their gifts to be fanned into flame. You will promote the welfare, healthy and safety of youth in all activities.

You will have recent experience and/or training in Christian youth ministry and there is a genuine occupational requirement that the postholder is a practising Christian. You will have experience of working with volunteers and are able to work well as part of a team. You will have proven ability to initiate and lead on new ideas and to communicate well with young people and with parents and carers. Most importantly, you will be fully committed to St John’s aim to ensure the safety and welfare of all its members and in particular children, young people and vulnerable adults.

The initial contract for this role will be for 12 months, but we anticipate extending this subject to progress made during this period and to ongoing funding. It is a great opportunity for someone to shape our ministry and to bring more young people to know the love of Jesus.

A TRANSFORMED LIFE THROUGH THE BOOK OF PHILEMON

Recently I was asked a question while travelling in a car with 3 others, what is your favourite book in the bible, or what book in the bible would you want to have if you were stranded on a desert island?

…For myself, I like the books of Philemon and Ephesians…Philemon because it has a message that I and probably many other people can relate to, a book about a complete transformation of a man’s life.

…Onesimus was a slave and was considered useless or unprofitable in who he was as a person. As a slave he was poor, rejected and in bondage. This is how we all were before we found Jesus…

This is a remarkable transformation in his life and circumstances.

Onesimus is sent back not as a slave and unprofitable, but as a free person, now a son, brother and is counted as useful and profitable…It is so remarkable that it is hard to comprehend, but as I look at my own life, it has been exactly the same – I was once bound in my own ways, bound by drugs, alcohol and that sense of being a nobody – running away, trying to find what life was all about – to eventually finding God and finding or discovering that I am someone who has significance and is profitable to God and His Kingdom. Isn’t this the same with all of us?

I ended up leaving my job, family, friends, and country

…Onesimus and I are very similar in many ways, after finding God we both embarked on a healing and discipleship journey that changed our lives forever.

when I stopped running and found Jesus, things changed.

I can say the same as what Paul writes to Onesimus: I was once running away trying to find and search for answers, yet when I stopped running and found Jesus, things changed. I no longer run away from God but to Him, only He has the answers to all life’s issues.

I wonder, how do you see yourself today?

Have you heard of Eagles Nest Home Education Group? It may be of interest to you or people in your congregation.

You may have heard of us or members of your congregation may attend, but we are aware that some churches are not aware that our group exists, in which case we would like to introduce ourselves.

We are a community of Christian home educating families from all across Sussex. We are multi denominational, with many nationalities represented each week. We aim to be a welcoming group, who support each other. We meet weekly on a Tuesday with up to 75 children attending and with ages from 0 to 17 years.

Families choose to home educate for a variety of reasons and we are not asking that you promote home education as a church but if you come across a family that are considering home educating or are struggling with the school system and could do with meeting or speaking with someone please do sign post them our way.
